About BRO

The BMX Riders Organization (BRO) is a broad-based group of riders from the various disciplines of BMX. BMX freestyle is not only a valid sport, but an art form. Our goal is to protect, preserve and promote our sport and form of expression.

We work to encourage awareness of the legal and social issues surrounding the sport, and to provide a voice for its participants. We also work to foster a sense of community between BMX Riders, the public and athletes of similar sports, such as skateboarding.

BRO is non-hierarchical and anyone, anywhere is welcome to start a local chapter. The founders request to be kept informed about local happenings and provide a website and message board to foster communication between groups.

BRO does:

  • Advocate for public riding areas for BMX.
  • Lobby private facilities to offer the same services to BMX that they do to other sports.
  • Try to counteract anti-BMX prejudice wherever it is found.

BRO does not:

  • Sponsor riders.
  • Profit from BMX in any way.

The BRO "Way"

  1. The goals of the BMX Riders Organization (BRO) are to promote the art and sport of BMX (including, but not limited to, BMX freestyle, dirt jumping, racing, street riding, skatepark riding, and flatland) and to protect the rights and well-being of its participants. BRO will accept anyone who supports these goals as a member.

  2. In acting as representatives of BRO, members are required to act in a professional manner. All documents and correspondence shall be professional, well written and spell-checked. Dealings with public officials and/or citizens are to be carried out in a respectful manner. Behavior that could tarnish the image of BRO or endanger the progress that the organization has made will not be tolerated.

  3. BRO representatives shall always work to encourage unity between the communities of BMX, skateboarding and inline skating. BRO representatives are encouraged to work alongside these communities toward common goals.

  4. BRO consists of a central steering committee and local chapters. BRO may employ workers, however the goals of the organization are non-professional. The BRO steering committee is responsible for maintenance of the central web site, national petitions, contest tallies, and literature. The steering committee may vote on issues related to these topics, however BRO is non-hierarchical.

  5. The strength of BRO lies in the sharing of information. Local chapters are required to register with the central steering committee and to keep this committee informed about their work and local happenings. Local chapters are expected to do their best to help other chapters or any rider, local or non-local.

  6. Local chapters of BRO are autonomous and self-supporting. These chapters are responsible for their own government and finances. Local chapters are free to make their own decisions, however they shall always consult with the central steering committee and other local chapters on decisions that might affect the well-being of the BMX community as a whole.

  7. The BRO steering committee reserves the right to revoke the name "BMX Riders Organization" from any local chapter if we feel that this chapter engages in activities which endanger the greater good of the BMX community.
